    Shopping

Stores in Germany are officially open from Monday to Saturday from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., but the actual opening hours are set individually by each store. On Sundays, stores are closed except for bakeries, train stations and gas stations.

In the cities of the Heilbronn-Franken region, stores in the city centers are usually open Monday through Friday from 9 or 10 a.m. until 7 or 8 p.m. On Saturdays, most stores are open only until 6 p.m. Supermarkets are usually also open on Saturdays until 8 pm. At large supermarkets, you can often store until 10pm.

Each neighborhood usually has its own bakery, butcher shop and at least one small supermarket. Larger supermarkets offer a very wide and, depending on the chain, inexpensive range of products. Among the cheaper discount supermarkets are, for example, Lidl, Aldi and Penny Markt. A wider range of brands, some with higher prices, are offered by e.g. Edeka, Rewe and Kaufland.

In the supermarkets you can pay with cash and EC bank card, less often with credit card. In bakeries and small stores often only cash payment is accepted. In the supermarket, you pack your own purchases at the checkout. Plastic bags for your purchases are not provided free of charge for environmental reasons. Therefore, bring a bag from home or buy a plastic or paper bag at the checkout. Almost all beverage bottles and cans have a deposit. The exception is wine and liquor bottles.

As in every German city, there are a number of weekly markets in the Heilbronn-Franken region. They are set up in fixed places on one or more days of the week. There, merchants and farmers from the surrounding area offer their goods (mainly fruits and vegetables). The quality of the products is very good, but often a bit more expensive than in the supermarkets.
